About and corrections

IKnowBigfoot.com is a reference site about the sasquatch: the reports, the physical evidence, the science, the hoaxes, the people, the law and the culture. It tries to hold two things at once, that the evidence for the animal is weak and that the people reporting it are mostly telling the truth, and it tries to be genuinely useful to someone approaching the subject from either direction.

It is not affiliated with any Bigfoot organization, museum, television production, expedition outfit or research group. Nothing on it is sponsored. Nothing on it is for sale.

What it is built from

Published books, peer-reviewed papers, newspaper archives, county ordinances, agency statements, and the primary documents where they survive. Everything used is listed in the Library, including the works this site disagrees with, which are the more useful half. The methodology page explains how claims are labeled and what the sourcing rule is.

Corrections

If something here is wrong, I want to know, and I would rather hear it bluntly than not at all.

The most useful correction names the page, quotes the sentence, and gives a source. The least useful says the site is biased without saying toward what. Both get read.

• Errors of fact get fixed and noted.
• Errors of framing get argued about and often fixed too.
• Anyone described on this site who thinks their entry is unfair or inaccurate gets a

reply and a serious look. The standard is what published sources support, and if an entry goes past that, it is wrong and it changes.

Use the report form, which reaches me directly, and say in the first line that it is a correction rather than a sighting.

Submissions

The report form also takes first-person accounts. Everything sent is read by a person before anything appears. Accounts are published under a first name and last initial only, and they are published as accounts of an experience rather than as evidence of an animal. Nothing is graded with status labels, because a first-person experience is not the kind of claim those labels are for.

If you send an account, you keep it. Say the word and it comes down, no questions.

On tone

There are jokes on this site. They are aimed at the field's habits, at the merchandising, at the ninth consecutive season of a show premised on finding something, and at me. They are not aimed at witnesses. If a line here reads as mockery of somebody who saw something and said so, that is a defect and I would like it pointed out.

Credits

Written and maintained by Darin Molnar. Built as a static site, generated from Markdown and JSON, hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Sighting submissions run on a small Cloudflare Function and a D1 database, with Turnstile in front of the form because otherwise it would fill with machine-written nonsense within a week.

The favicon is a footprint. It is not a cast of anything.
